Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy
OMPT concerns itself with conservative management of musculoskeletal problems with a predominantly “hands-on” approach and targets the biomechanical cause of the dysfunction rather than modality application or exercises only.
OMPT increases our treatment options for the spine and extremities significantly, including specific joint mobilizations. Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy requires four years post-graduate education including 600 hours of residency.
Our clinical staff members are enrolled in the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy. This enables us to provide our patients with advanced manual therapy techniques and be continuously updated on the newest PT approaches.
We conduct weekly training sessions and patient care meetings with the objective to improve our functional results and clinician skill level.
Medical Exercise Therapy
Medical exercise therapy, a functional approach to rehabilitation, is used to assess and treat patients with injuries and dysfunction of the neuromusculoskeletal system. The principles of strength, speed, endurance, power, coordination and aerobic training are applied to achieve specific results. The progressive exercise program is designed to restore normal function through gentle 3-dimensional exercises. Work and Sports specific Rehabilitation We have developed work and sports-specific protocols to promote safe and appropriate return to work and sport. The functional protocols use 3-Dimensional exercises resembling the required activities following rehabilitation. The use of local health clubs allow the patients to exercise independently at appropriate frequency.
Post surgical rehabilitation
Our staff has extensive experience in rehabilitation following Orthopaedic surgery and the use of the local health clubs contributes to the functional outcome. Neurological rehabilitation We have the dedication, skills and the patience to work with all neuromusculoskeletal dysfunctions.
Pediatrics and Geriatrics
We appreciate the structural changes in the neuromusculoskeletal system through the ages and the consequences created for the rehabilitation program and the expectations for return to function. We have developed several rehabilitation protocols tailored to the age of the patient, the prior functional level and the desired activity level following rehabilitation, including athletic assessments.
Myofascial pain syndromes
Myofascial pain syndromes including fibromyalgia are challenging conditions welcomed by our staff. We will work in conjunction the physician and the patient to decrease the pain level and assist in reaching your functional goals
TMJ and Cranio–mandibular dysfunction
In addition to localized treatments of the TMJ, we will consider other area’s in our comprehensive approach: the upper cervical and cervicothoracic spine. We consider the fact that a poor posture and increased muscle tension can influence the overall functioning of the TMJ.
Research has shown that in addition to medical intervention, a program of weight lifting and cardiovascular training is mandatory to slow down, prevent or even reverse osteoporosis. Our role in this process is to perform a thorough musculoskeletal assessment and design an exercise protocol tailored specifically for our patient. If desired and appropriate, patients can incorporate our programs at the local health clubs .
Pre and Post Natal Pelvis / Low Back Pain
Pelvic changes causing back pain in pregnancy is a well-known problem. Our gentle techniques of joint mobilization, massage, manual traction and functional exercises will help alleviate the spinal dysfunction.
Biofeedback protocols along with pelvic floor musculature exercises are used to strengthen the weak area.
